We’ve recently delivered more than 30 low-emission vans for engineering firm Ocean Kinetics, supporting operations across the remote locations of Shetland, Orkney and Aberdeen. The rollout marks an important step in the company’s sustainability journey and builds on a successful four-year partnership, during which we’ve provided a fully managed fleet solution tailored to their operational requirements.
Operating in remote locations brings unique challenges, so it was important that the new fleet reflected the realities of day-to-day operations. Working alongside the Ocean Kinetics team, we carefully selected a mix of, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles where operationally required, ensuring the fleet remains practical, reliable and fit for purpose.
As part of our biannual fleet review process, we supported Ocean Kinetics in identifying vehicles best suited to remote island environments. Reliability and local maintainability were key considerations, which led to the fleet being predominantly made up of Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Connect models. Alongside the van rollout, Ocean Kinetics has also introduced five fully electric company cars, including the Polestar 2 and BMW i5, further supporting its decarbonisation strategy.
With public charging infrastructure still limited across some island locations, the business has also invested in workplace charging facilities to support the transition to a lower-emission fleet.
At Gofor, we believe in building long-term partnerships with our customers. Our Senior Account Manager, Kashif Hussain, works closely with the Ocean Kinetics team through regular meetings and onsite visits to fully understand the operational demands they face. That proactive approach allows us to design fleet strategies that work in practice - whether that’s coordinating seamless vehicle deliveries to remote islands or supporting long-term decarbonisation planning.
This rollout demonstrates how businesses operating in even the most challenging environments can take meaningful steps towards reducing emissions, while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability.
